Federico Bosi — computer engineer, Bologna

Software that flies.

Flight computers for a student rocketry team, an app that strangers paid for, a few exploits for sport. Now studying AI at the University of Bologna and looking for the next thing worth building.

  • 110/110 cum laude, Computer Engineering, University of Bologna
  • 3rd place, European Hackathon League, Zürich
  • Two first prizes, HackRome 2026
  • 3rd nationally, CyberChallenge.IT Attack/Defense
  • Software lead, Aurora Rocketry

Selected work

Real-time firmware for the team's avionics: ESP32, FreeRTOS across both cores, ISR-safe shutdown of the pyrotechnic channels, sensor drivers, telemetry logging. Also the unglamorous half — debugging firing circuits, reworking LGA/QFN sensors by hand, and reading a flight's CSV to learn that the logger ran at 0.84 Hz and the MCU browned out at liftoff. Software team lead since September 2026.

An AI-based grocery ordering app. It took two first prizes at HackRome 2026 and is now being built out as a commercial product.

Routing that ranks roads by how good they are to ride — curvature, surface, weather, the bike you're on — instead of how short they are. Indicator survey done; data connectors and the scoring engine are in progress.

About

The first program I ever saw was my father fixing a PC that wouldn't boot, from a terminal, when I was in primary school. I wanted to know how he had talked to it. In middle school he gave me a book on JavaScript, and I haven't really stopped since.

Since then: a cafeteria app at sixteen, infrastructure work on a couple of hundred servers, a lot of CTFs, and a rocketry team where the code gets exactly one chance to be right.

I'm now doing an MSc in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bologna. The long game is building a company, probably in the US. Away from the keyboard: motorcycles, and the etymology of the Romagnolo dialect.
